What is a service account?

Service accounts offer console administrators the flexibility to generate VPN accounts independent of specific individuals or team members. Streamline access management for users connecting to your test labs, living rooms, and VPNs by configuring service accounts on your routers. This eliminates the necessity for administrators to rely on workarounds like temporary or user emails for access sharing. Instead, they can easily provision and oversee accounts for their devices.

Functional scenarios of service account

  • Creation of Service Accounts:
    • Users can create service accounts for their teams without the need to associate an email address.

  • Access Control:
    • Only admin and sub-admin roles have access to the service account list/ screen on the console.

  • Visibility and Information:
    • A comprehensive list of service accounts and their passwords is available on the console.

  • VPN Connection and Usage:
    • Users can establish VPN connections using service accounts.
    • Service accounts allow users to log in to the app and connect to VPN on routers and other testing devices.

  • Password Management:
    • Users have the ability to change the password of service accounts.

  • Deletion of Service Accounts:

How to use a service account

Here's how the service account appears on the PureDome console once it becomes active:

  • Service Account Name: The email address for a service account is generated using the name specified during account creation, with the email domain being determined by the workspace name. In our case, the name "IT Room" was used to create this service account, and "gwload" serves as the workspace name.
  • Account Password: This password is designed for use when logging into the PureDome application with the service account.
  • VPN Username: This username is required for manual VPN connections. You can manually connect on desktops, mobile devices, or routers using this username.
  • VPN Password: This password is to be used alongside the VPN username when initiating a manual VPN connection.
