How to Setup PureVPN L2TP on Linux Mint 19.3

PureVPN is now compatible with Linux Mint. Check out the following tutorial on how you can setup PureVPN on Linux Mint 19.3 using the L2TP protocol:

Things to Consider:

  1. You have a working internet connection.
  2. Linux Mint 19.3 Supported Device.
  3. A Premium PureVPN account (If you haven’t bought yet click 👉here to buy).
Find your VPN credentials for manual configuration.

To find your VPN credentials log into the PureVPN member area. Click 👉 here to visit member area.

  • Login to the Member area using your PureVPN registered email address and password.
  • On subscriptions tab scroll down to be able to view your VPN credentials.
  • You will be able to see and copy your VPN credentials.
  • Note down your PureVPN username and click on Eye icon to make your password visible and use it in the manual configuration.
How to connect PureVPN manually on Linux Mint 19.3
  • Go to Menu and open the Terminal.
First, go to Menu and open the Terminal.
  • Now, you need to install L2TP module. Type the following commands one by one:
1. sudo apt-get update
2. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nm-l2tp/network-manager-l2tp
3. sudo apt-get install network-manager-l2tp network-manager-l2tp-gnome
4. sudo apt-get install xl2tpd
  • Once you are done, log out and log in again (or you can also restart the system).
  • Finally, follow these steps:
    1. Click the Wired Connection.
    2. Go to Network Connections.

  • Click the + icon to add a VPN connection and select the Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) Hit the Create button after you are done.

  • When a new window opens, complete the fields as below:
  • Connection name: PureVPN
  • Insert the desired server: Please refer to the server address shared in the above note.
    1. Germany: de1.pointtoserver.com
    2. Netherlands: nl1.pointtoserver.com
    3. United Kingdom: ukl1.pointtoserver.com
    4. United States: usil1.pointtoserver.com
    5. United States: ustx1.pointtoserver.com
    6. United States: usca1.pointtoserver.com
    7. United States: usfl1.pointtoserver.com
    8. United States: usny1.pointtoserver.com
    9. United States: uswdc1.pointtoserver.com
    10. Australia: au-sd1.pointtoserver.com
  • Enter your PureVPN credentials. Here is how you can 👉find your VPN credentials.
When a new window opens, complete the fields as below:  Connection name: PureVPN Insert the desired server: Please refer to the server address shared in the above note. Username: Your VPN username Password: Your VPN password
  • Click the IPSec Settings button, and use the following settings:
    1. Check the Enable IPSec tunnel to L2TP host box
    2. Pre-shared key: 12345678
    3. Click OK.

  • Click the L2TP PPP Settings button and use the following settings:
    1. Check the MSCHAP box.
    2. Check the MSCHAPv2 box.
    3. Check the Allow BSD data compression box.
    4. Check the Allow Deflate data compression box.
    5. Check the Use TCP header compression box.
Next, click the L2TP PPP Settings button and use the following settings:  Check the MSCHAP box Check the MSCHAPv2 box Check the Allow BSD data compression box Check the Allow Deflate data compression box Check the Use TCP header compression box
  • Click OK and then Save.
  • Go to Wired Connections, and click PureVPN under VPN Connections to activate your VPN.
Click OK and then Save.  <span class="su-dropcap su-dropcap-style-default" style="font-size:0em">6</span> Go to Wired Connections, and click PureVPN under VPN Connections to activate your VPN.
  • You are now connected.
 Voila! You are now connected.
