This is a network error caused when the remote server between the network connection and the VPN server does not respond promptly.

Possible Cause: This is either due to network devices employing firewalls, NAT, routers, etc. resulting in the remote server to be non-responsive when establishing a VPN connection.

Possible Solution: You must enable the port (as mentioned below) on your router/firewall.

  • PPTP port (TCP port 1723) is blocked by a firewall/router. [Applicable to tunnel type = PPTP]
  • L2TP or IKEv2 port (UDP port 500, UDP port 4500) is blocked by a firewall/router. [Applicable to tunnel type = L2TP or IKEv2]

If you’re unable to do so, deploy SSTP based VPN tunnel on both VPN server and VPN client – that allows VPN connection across web proxies, NAT, and firewalls.
