The error occurs because a remote connection is denied due to an invalid combination of username and password being provided, or the authentication protocol is not allowed on the remote access server.

Causes: Error Code 691 can be caused due to the following conditions:

  • The settings for your dial-up connection to your ISP are configured incorrectly.
  • The dial-up connection’s security option is configured incorrectly to use the required secure password setting.
  • Your ISP’s Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) server is not functioning properly.
  • An incorrect username/password was entered.
  • Your account is no longer valid.

Solutions: Here are some ways to deal with error code 691:  

  1. Make sure the correct username and password is entered. Please check your email for correct VPN credentials
  2. While typing credentials, ensure that ‘Caps Lock’ button is turned off type Username and Password manually, do not copy/paste
  3. Make sure your PureVPN account is not expired

    I am sorry for the inconvenience. This error means there is something wrong with Username or Password, kindly type username and password manually, do not copy/paste. If you still get this error then you need to reset your password.

      I had contact with the company I purchached PureVpn from (not PureVPN), they forgot to mail me the PureVPN inlog account&password, so it appeared that I used it with a temporary license for a few days.

      Problem solved with a legitimed inlog-account&password!
      Working fine now!

    Hello,
    I purchased and installed PureVPN 6 days ago, it worked fine, but since today I am getting error code 691, and not any connection to pureVPN servers, I tried a few,
    Also restarted my (Win7) computer, checked username and password (are generated ok, but also re-typed them, no-go)…
    What could be the cause & solution?
