In this tutorial, we will show you how to set up a VPN on a TP-Link R6000 VPN Router with Hardware version TL-R6000VPN v4.0 and Firmware version 4.0.3 but first let’s see what are our requirements and recommendations.

Things to Consider:

Before you begin, please make sure that:

  • You have a working internet connection
  • VPN Supported Router.
  • Own a premium PureVPN account (If you do not already own one, you can buy a subscription from here.
1 To start set up VPN on tp-link router you first have to connect to it. For that, you have to put in your browser the following address: http://192.168.0.1 (If this doesn’t work, please consult your router’s manual to find what is the Default Gateway Address). Enter your router’s username and password and click ‘Login’.

2 Once logged in, go to the ‘Network’ tab and select ‘WAN’ option from the drop-down list.

3 Under WAN change the mode to ‘WAN1’ or ‘WAN2’ (as per your desire/whichever WAN is activated) and set the Internet Connection to “PPTP” from the drop-down menu.

4 Now enter the following information.

  • Insert your username & password as provided by PureVPN. (For further instructions on how to check your active PureVPN username and password click here.)
  • Connection Mode: Connect Automatically
  • Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
  • Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
  • Secondary Connection: Dynamic IP
  • Server Address: (Enter the IP address of the VPN server you want to connect to in this field. Please check this link on how to convert server address into IP address.)
  • Once you have entered all the information, click on the “Connect” button to activate the VPN connection.

PureVPN is connected now on your tp-link Tl-R6000VPN Router.
