Change MTU settings in Windows

If you are not satisfied with your connection stability and facing DNS issues, then you might need to adjust the MTU value in your Windows system. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Tap Start Button.
  • Search and open the View Network Connections option.
  • You will now see a new window displaying all of your network adapters, Both Ethernet/LAN and Wireless included. In our case, the active adaptor is Ethernet 2 so we will be using it. Your network adapter name may be different.
  • Now Right click on the Ethernet Adapter and then click Properties
  • When the new window appears, click on the Configure… button.
  • When the new window appears, go to the Advanced option then select Jumbo Frame option and then set your desired MTU values manually.
  • Although you can not set the MTU value to the desired accurate value, this is not a serious problem as you can select the closest MTU that is the higher than your desired value. For example, If your network MTU setting is 7250 on your network, Your Windows MTU should be set to 9014 Bytes in order to avoid dropped packets over the network from your machine.
Change MTU settings in Mac

If you are not satisfied with your connection stability and facing DNS issues, then you might need to adjust the MTU value in your Mac system. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Click on the Apple icon and then select and open the System Preferences… option.
  • Now go to the Network option and then select the Ethernet or Wifi connection whichever you are using to access Internet.
  • Now click on the Advanced option of your selected connection.
  • Now go to the Hardware tab and then change the configure type to manually.
  • Now change the MTU to Customized settings and then enter your desired customized value. Click on OK button to apply changes.
